About the film

Photographers didn’t want him in their shots. Spectators didn’t want him on the track. Adidas didn’t want him in their shoes. But Oglala Sioux “rez runner” Billy Mills was an orphan, an Indian school survivor. He was used to being unwanted. What he wasn’t used to was winning. Yet he shocked the world and himself by clinching the 10000m gold medal and event record at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Black Hills Gold will be told through never-before-seen Super 8 race footage captured over the course of his career, news and Olympic footage, and the words of the incredibly articulate and inspiring octogenarian sports legend himself.
